Child Nutrition Department

Mission
The Mission of the Coppell ISD Child Nutrition Department is to provide quality nutritious meals in a customer-focused environment. By working together as a team, we will strive to learn and improve through continuous training so that our students will be able to develop healthy minds and bodies.

About our Program
{Fruit Tray}
All schools in the CISD are on a nutrient standard menu planning system called "NuMenus". NuMenus uses software specifically designed to comply with all program requirements to ensure that our meals meet certain nutrient levels of calories, fat, protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Nutritional analysis of all meals may be provided upon request.

We serve approximately 1.3 million lunches and 20,000 breakfasts throughout the district from our fourteen campuses. Six percent of our students participate in the free/reduced lunch program. Our staff consists of 90 employees, including office staff and management.
Elementary lunches are $2.25, secondary lunches are $2.50, and adult lunches are $2.75. Breakfast prices are $1.00 for students and $1.25 for adults. At all elementary schools we offer three entrees with choices between four side dishes.

The secondary schools offer five entrees with choices between four side dishes. Meals are also offered in secondary schools that include an entree, fruit, and milk. All meal program participants are allowed to choose meals in the daily special line or the combo line.
Daily offerings include salads and sandwiches.

Our catering department provides refreshments and meals at a reasonable price for meetings and school related functions. We operate a self supporting program that does not use local tax dollars, but rather is sustained by federal dollars and our cash paying customers.

Public School Nutrition Policy At-A-Glance
Schools are in a powerful position to influence children's lifelong eating habits. To support this role and help combat the childhood obesity crisis, the Texas Department of Agriculture created new nutrition guidelines for public schools participating in the federally funded Child Nutrition Programs. These quick reference guides outline the policies for Texas elementary schools, effective August 1, 2004.

Charge Policy:
The Coppell Child Nutrition Department will follow a charge policy of $5.00 per any student enrolled in the district for meals. Once the maximum limit has been reached, an alternate meal of a vegetable plate and 8 ounce milk will be offered to the student as a substitute meal. The District requires that the household be the responsible party for maintaining the positive balance on a student's account. Meal accounts may be managed through http://www.mynutrikids.com/ for online crediting.

Nutritional Analysis
As a participant in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs, the food service department operates under policies, rules, and regulations established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Coppell ISD follows the NuMenus planning system (under USDA required guidelines). NuMenus requires that all of our menus be analyzed to meet the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) for the appropriate age group of the students. NuMenus is a flexible menu planning system. It has allowed our students to have a nutritious meal at a minimal cost. A copy of this nutritional information is kept in our nutrition office and is available upon request. If you have any questions regarding the menus or would like additional information about Nutrition Services, call 214-496-8050.
