WELCOME!! Athletics is an opportunity for young men and women at Coppell Middle School West to make themselves faster, stronger, and better athletes as well as compete against other schools in interscholastic athletic sporting events such as volleyball, football, basketball, cross country, track, and tennis. We view athletics as a privelege that can be taken away if abused. We expect each student in athletics to compete in 2 sports during the year (one each semester). For instance, if your son/daughter does not play a sport in the fall and tries out for basketball and does not make it, they will be expected to run cross country. That will be their sport for the first semester. Everyone will be doing track-type workouts in the spring, although not everyone will compete in a meet.

Girls' Sports:
Volleyball and Basketball are both sports where tryouts are to be held. It is the coach's discretion as to how many make the team. Each sport team is then divided into three teams: A, B, and C. There are no cuts in cross country and track, although not everyone may be involved in a meet.
Boys' Sports
Football is offered in the fall and there are no tryouts. If your son decides to play football and can meet the practice and game expectations, he is on the team. If your son decides to stop playing football before the end of the season, he must play basketball or run cross country to fulfill the sport requirement for the first semester. Tryouts for basketball start immediately after football. It is the coach's discretion as to how many are on the team which will be broken into three teams: A, B, and C. Anyone that does not play football and does not make the basketball team will be required to run cross country. After the basketball/cross country season is over, track season will officially begin, Again, everyone will participate in track workouts, however, not everyone will participate in a track meet.
Note to parents: When your child is not involved with the sport that is in season, they will be involved with off-season. Off-season will be focused on developing strength, endurance, and specific skills for the upcoming season. A program will be set up and a note sent home pertaining to the offseason program.
