Frequently Asked Questions
CISD will continue to add questions and answers to this section.
Who is eligible to apply to Pinkerton Elementary?
All elementary students (Kindergarten through fifth grade) who currently reside in the Coppell ISD boundaries.
I am currently in the Open Enrollment program, can I apply to Pinkerton? No. Open enrollment students are not eligible to apply to Pinkerton.
Do I need to submit a separate application for each child?
Yes, an application for each child must be submitted.
Will I need to re-apply each year?
No. Once you are accepted you do not need to re-apply.
If I have multiple children in Elementary school, do all my children have to apply? No. As long as you can provide transportation, you can choose to have one or some of your children at their home campus and the other(s) apply to Pinkerton.
How many seats will be left open for new enrollment children who live within the Pinkerton attendance boundary?
The majority of openings will be in kindergarten; however, there will be a handful of seats available in grades 1-5. A minimum of 3 seats will be left open in each grade level for families that move into the Pinkerton zone.
Will transportation be provided?
No. Parents who do NOT live within the Pinkerton boundaries will need to provide their own transportation for their children who apply to attend Pinkerton.
Will pay-to-ride bus transportation be available?
No. The pay-to-ride service will not be available to families who apply to Pinkerton from another campus.
If I miss one of the parent meetings can I still apply to Pinkerton?
The parent meeting will provide very important information about the learning at Pinkerton and the commitment and application process. A parent/guardian is required to attend one of these meetings in order to apply.
Can I rescind my commitment after I sign the commitment letter?
In order to plan for staffing at each campus, the deadline to rescind your commitment is June 27, 2016.
How long do I need to commit to attend Pinkerton?
We anticipate that once you start attending Pinkerton, you will want to remain there until fifth grade. However, the commitment letter only asks for a one-year commitment.
If my situation changes and I no longer want my child at Pinkerton, can he/she transfer mid-year?
Any mid-year transfer requests will require approval from the transfer committee.
Lottery & Wait List
Do Parents need to attend the lottery drawing to be eligible for selection? No. Parents do not need to attend the lottery. After names are drawn, CISD will email and mail a letter home notifying parents of their acceptance or if they have been put on a wait list.
How will the lottery work?
After the applications are submitted, the children's names will be compiled and put into a lottery software system. On March 21, 2016 names will be selected randomly until all seats are filled. Children not selected in the lottery will be put on a waiting list.
If one child is selected through the lottery process, are the siblings automatically selected? Yes, as long as it doesn't make a grade level go over the state ratios.
Will there be a wait list?
Yes. Applicants not selected in the lottery will be put on the waiting list. We will review the number of seats available and look to the wait list after the April 4th commitment letters have been returned. If a family has more than one child that is on the wait list then we will consider the space availability in the multiple grade levels on a case by case basis.
Can I be put on the waiting list after the application process closes?
Yes, but a parent must have attended one of the parent informational meetings to be put on the wait list.
Will Pinkerton accept mid-year transfers if they are on the wait list?
Yes. If a spot is available students on the wait list may transfer to Pinkerton.
What middle school will my child attend?
They can choose to follow the Pinkerton middle school pattern, which is Coppell Middle School West. Parents will still need to provide transportation to West (if West is not your zoned middle school). If they prefer, students may also choose to attend their zoned middle school.
