Happy April Trailblazers!!

I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of lovely spring sunshine! Spring is definitely in the air at DCE!

Last Friday, 11 learners from 3rd and 4th grade participated in a site visit with 7 other educators to collect data and begin to dream what the new “DCE University” will look like next year. This group will be meeting to work out all of the details on how learners will have a voice and choice to utilize their talents and passions, and explore new ones,within a real world setting. Stay tuned for reports from this committee! I am so excited to see what they design for our DCE learners!

A couple of important reminders:

*Order forms for tickets to the Ranger’s game on the 30th of April are due FRIDAY, APRIL 11th.

*We DO have school on April 18th and the last day of school is now June 5th.

*June 5th will be an early release day at 12:50pm….this time is NEW.


PTO Meeting on Thursday, April 10th will be in the DCE library from 1:45 to 2:45pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend!

DCE Spring Social will be Friday, April 11th from5:00-8:00pm on the DCE grounds! Come bring the whole family and enjoy this gathering! Learners will be able to “travel with their passport” to explore other countries and their culture. Don’t worry about cooking that night, let the Food Trucks that will be at the social do the cooking for you! It is going to be a beautiful night to enjoy with your DCE Family!

Wednesday, April 16th our 5th graders will visit Coppell Middle School North! They will learn about the different electives to choose from and get a first hand feel for life at middle school. **5th grade parents, be sure you watch emails from your teacher for details about all upcoming 5th grade events concerning CMSN and end of year events at DCE!

Thursday, April 17th Kindergarten will walk to the park to explore and celebrate oviparous animals.

Also on Thursday, April 17th, 1st Grade will be on their field trip to the Fort Worth Science Museum.

April 18th WE WILL BE IN SCHOOL! This is one of the 2 days we have to make up due to icy weather earlier this year.

STAAR Testing for 3rd and 4th Grade will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22nd and 23rd. 5th Grade will have STAAR Testing only on Wednesday, April 23rd. 3rdand 4th grade will be taking the Math and Reading tests and 5thgrade will be taking the Science test. NO PARENTS will be allowed in the building Tuesday and Wednesday.

April 25th Counselors and Staff from CMSN will becoming to meet with 5th grade to give an overview of what to expect next year and answer questions.

Also on April 25th, 2nd Grade will be on a field trip to the Federal Bureau of Engraving.

April 29th will find 3rd grade at the Dallas World Aquarium for their field trip.

Also on April 29th, our PreK classes with be at the park as a cumulating event for their unit of study on insects.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame!! Join us at the Ranger’s game for CISD at the Ballpark on April 30th! Tickets are on sale now. Final date to return your order form is Friday, April 11th.

Wow! April is busy month! (Just wait until you see May!!)

New Student

To schedule an appointment for enrollment, contact our registrar Margareta Farrell at mfarrell@coppellisd.com or
by phone at 214-496-8100 (email is preferred).
Denton Creek Elementary has online registration for which you will need a password. After providing the following
information to Ms. Farrell, she will set up your password and will send it to you so that you can complete the
online portion of enrollment before your scheduled appointment.
  1. Student Name
  2. Student Date of Birth
  3. Parent/Guardian Name
  4. Are you the parent or a guardian?
  5. Parent/Guardian email (to be used as a login for the parent portal)
  6. Physical address (No PO Box)
  7. Home phone number
  8. Cell phone number
  9. Primary language spoken in your home
  10. Student Grade
  11. Name of the Last School Student Attended
  12. List any special needs (special education, ESL, etc.)
You will need to bring the following documentation to your scheduled appointment:
  • Proof of residency in Coppell ISD:
a) Signed Settlement Statement (signatures required are the purchaser and the Title agent). A preliminary statement for estimation of closing costs is not acceptable; or
b) Signed Rental/Lease Agreement (signatures must be provided by both parties) showing the occupancy date
  • A current utility bill (containing the resident name and address)
  • Student’s original social security card (if applicable) – Ms. Farrell will make a copy.
  • Student’s original birth certificate or passport – Ms. Farrell will make a copy
  • Photo identification of parent/legal guardian (driver’s license/passport)
  • Custody papers:
    • Custodial parent will need to provide a copy of the divorce decree
    • Legal Guardian must provide court documentation or notarized paperwork
  • Immunization records (Texas state law will not allow an out-of-state student to start without this paperwork) - your child’s previous school can provide this information
  • Withdrawal papers if enrolling during the school year
  • Most recent Report Card your child’s previous school can provide this document
The student’s previous school is obligated to provide you with immunization records and the last report card.
