As I write this the weatherman is again predicting a wintery mix for the end of this week! Keep your fingers crossed; maybe this will be the year of a White Winter Break?! J
Here are some of the monthly events you might want to mark on your calendars:
Toy and Food Drive is currently taking place now through December 18th. 1stand 5th grade are partnering together for this service learning opportunity to help one of our local charities.
Denton Creek’s Teacher of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, December 4th! We will gather together around 2:15pm as a DCE family to hear the big news! As you know, we have a building full of outstanding educators! Feel free to come and join us in the celebration to find out who will represent DCE this year!
Alice in Wonderland will be performed by the CHS Drama department on Friday, December 6th. Our 5th graders will travel over to see if Alice finds her way back home from her travels in Wonderland.
4thGrade will be Skyping with a school in Mexico on Friday afternoon,December 6th! You might remember our 4th graders were busy writing for authentic purposes before Thanksgiving break during their Camp Write Away. One of the writing activities had all 4th graders writing letters to a little school in Mexico. They will get to “meet” these learners on Friday during their Skyping session! They have been preparing questions to ask their new friends to learn more about their lives in Mexico. I imagine top on their list is do they play soccer at recess!
Barnes and Noble will be showered with talented Denton Creek learners on Saturday,December 7th! Come join us for this annual event to celebrate the season with songs, stories, and gift wrapping performed by the students and staff at DCE! We will begin at 11:00am and end at 2:00pm. This will be a great time to not only support DCE but get some of your shopping done as well! (See attached schedule)
5thGrade Spelling Bee will take place in the DCE cafeteria on Wednesday morning, December 11th. The spelling fun will begin at 8:30am. Wonder who will represent Denton Creek at the district level this year?!
PTO Board Meeting on Thursday, December 12th will be held in the DCE library at 1:45pm. During this meeting our DCE Friday Live Crew will have a special encore presentation to demonstrate the TriCaster system that was purchased through last year’s Write a Check. Come join us!
DCE Caroling for our outstanding Denton Creek Families can be heard at a neighborhood near you on Thursday, December 12th! As a small way to give “Thanks” back to all of our students and parents, the staff will be caroling in locations throughout the DCE zone. (Schedule of locations coming soon!)
Best Christmas Pageant Ever presented by the drama department at CMSN will have the best Kinder-2nd grade students ever attend the morning of Friday, December 13th!
3rdGrade’s Multicultural Event will be the culmination of their big research unit on different cultures around the world. They will be sharing their new knowledge of the culture they researched on Friday afternoon, December 13th.
Chinese Acrobats will be the next PTO Program coming to DCE on Monday, December 16th.Their program focuses on perseverance, doing your best, working hard, and accomplishments. This program will be throughout the morning in the gym.
Snow Biz!! The 5thgrade music program will be blowing in on Tuesday, December 17th! There will be a morning school wide performance that will be recorded by the CHS communication department. Parents will be able to purchase the video of the morning performance. The 5th graders will repeat their program at 6:30pm for the parents. Since the morning performance is being recorded, we ask that parents not record the evening performance.
CMSN Band and Choir will be playing and singing songs of the season on Wednesday, December 18that 8:30am. Come join us for some outstanding holiday music and get to see some of our grown DCE students who are now in the North Band and Choir!
Polar Express will be rolling down the 1st Grade hallway on Wednesday, December 18th! Hot Cocoa anyone?
Winter Parties for Kinder, 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th will be held the last hour (2:00 to 3:00pm) on Thursday, December 19th in the classrooms. 2nd grade will have their Winter Party at 1:00pm that day.
DCE’s First Sing Along will occur on Friday morning, December 20th! Come join us for some holiday fun at 8:15am in the gym! You never know who might stop by or who will be singing!
If you plan on volunteering in your child’s room, you must complete a Criminal Background Check before doing so.
EARLY RELEASE on DECEMBER 20th is at 12:30pm!
ALL learners will need to be picked up by 12:30pm on that day.
Winter Break is from December 21-January 5th. Classes resume on January 6th bright and early!

Why Do We Learn About Communication....?
CISD Academic Olympics registration is open! Please encourage your student to participate in this fun event. Click to find out about each event, and to register. For only one event. After your online registration is complete, please send $10 (cash only) marked with your child's name to their homeroom teacher. Due to large numbers of registrants, please do not inquire if your registration was received. Teams will be contacted by 12-06, and will begin practicing the week of 12-09.
