Dear Parents, Families & Friends,
I hope you and your learners have had a fantastic start to the school year. I am pleased to have seen so many of you during Curriculum Night, Special Friends Day, and our Spirit Rally. Thank you for supporting Lakeside’s PTO during Write-A-Check! Your contributions support Lakeside learners in a variety of ways. Lakeside is Digital School of Communication (DSC) that incorporates a Project Based Learning (PBL) structure in our lesson design. If you would like to know more about PBL and how our DSC will prepare your child for their current and future endeavors, I would encourage you to visit the PBL tab on our homepage.
As you prepare for the month to come I want to be sure you are aware of some important events and timelines.
October 10th will be Conference Day. Although school will not be in session, we do ask that your child join you during your conference. This is a great time to share assessment data and set learner goals for the year.
October 13th we will observe Columbus Day and school will not be in session.
October 21st-23rd our 3rd and 5th graders will participate in CogAt testing.
You will get more information in the coming weeks.
October 23rd will be our 3rd grade program at 6pm.
October 27th-31st will be Red Ribbon Week. Please keep your eyes open for information about campus activities.
October 31st will be our Spirit Rally
November 3rd-5th our 5th graders will head off to Sky Ranch.
I know they will have a great time, and learn a lot as well.
Please remember to check our website for updates, “Like” our PTO on Face Book at Lakeside Elementary PTO, or follow us on Twitter @lakesidecoppell.
As a Digital School of Communication we are always thinking about ways in which to engage our learners in meaningful instruction that will prepare them to be 21st century communicators, collaborators, and innovators. Please consider joining us for a Lakeside Learning Walk where you will have the opportunity to see what sets Lakeside apart both in our integration of Digital Skills and Project Based Learning.
Thank you for being a part of our “Positively Awesome” community and for supporting us each day.

The 21st century focus at Lakeside does not stop at the integration of meaningful soft skills. Lakeside learners are surrounded by instructional media that they use to communicate with the world around them, collaborate with peers, create multimedia presentations, and critically evaluate information from global sources. Lakeside learners and educators have access to an ample supply of current technology from a variety of platforms. Each homeroom has an interactive smart board and available computers for learners to use. Grade levels have access to netbooks, laptops, two computer labs, Macbooks, iPads, iPods, and participate in virtual learning experiences on a regular basis. Our learners are preparing for the world of tomorrow and mastering the tools of today.
