GT Continuum of Services and Service Goals
CISD GT services are primarily designed to support and develop learners’ creative, academic, and intellectual gifts. A variety of leadership opportunities are available through passion projects, service learning opportunities, orbital studies of the grade level curriculum, and in some cases, acceleration.
As learners matriculate, there are opportunities to develop their athletic and artistic abilities through sports teams, choirs, bands, and advanced visual and performing arts courses.
Learners who receive CISD GT services will develop and demonstrate advanced skills through the development of professional-level products and performances in the following areas:
- Self-Directed Learning
- Critical Thinking
- Creative and Innovative Thinking
- Research in one or more disciplines
GT Service Design
Learners identified as needing GT services in Coppell ISD are provided a research-based learning continuum consistently implemented throughout the district to meet their needs and reinforce their strengths and interests. Specific information regarding the services offered at elementary, middle school, and high school levels can be found on the side bar.
GT Qualification and Assessment
All Kindergarten learners are automatically considered for GT services in accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students. Additionally, we screen all third and fifth grade learners each academic school year. Our identification process is on-going and assessment of learners in grades 1, 2, 4 and 6-12 occurs anytime the need arises. Learners may only be referred for GT services once per academic year. Please see sidebar links for more information regarding assessment dates, referrals, and timelines. We strongly encourage you to read about our GT service designs before submitting a referral for GT assessment.
