Bilingual Services - Dual Language Immersion (DLI)

The Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program is the Bilingual Education model for Coppell ISD. DLI focuses on developing English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing through academic instruction in both English and Spanish. The goal of DLI is for students to become Bilingual and Biliterate with sociocultural competency.
CISD offers a One-Way DLI program in PreKindergarten for qualifying, native Spanish learners.
CISD offers a Two-Way DLI program in Kindergarten through 5th grade for qualifying, native Spanish learners. Learners who do not qualify for entry into DLI may apply for the lottery to enter in Kindergarten or First grade. -
Elementary Dual Language Immersion (English/Spanish) Campuses
- Denton Creek Elementary (home campuses attending Denton Creek are: Canyon Ranch, Lakeside, Lee, Mockingbird, Town Center, and Valley Ranch)
- Wilson Elementary (home campuses attending Wilson are: Austin, Cottonwood Creek, and Pinkerton)
Middle School Campuses- The Advanced Spanish courses for students who participated in Dual Language Immersion at Wilson Elementary or Denton Creek Elementary are available at CMS North.
*If CMS North is not your middle school based on the attendance boundary, a transfer is required. -
Dear Prospective Dual Language Immersion Parents:
We are so excited to start our application process for the Dual Language Immersion Program for the 2022-2023 school year. During the month of February, we will begin the kick off for Dual Language Immersion with two parent informational meetings for prospective parents to learn how to apply for their learners to participate in the Dual Language Immersion program and learn more about how the program operates. We have an additional meeting scheduled in March after the application process begins.
Interested parents of kindergarten or first grade learners are strongly encouraged to attend at least one of the informational meeting sessions. Please see Important Dates below for meeting details.

- Monday, February 28, 2022: 2021-2022 Electronic Application Window Opens
- March 9, 2022 Informational Meeting at Brock, Training Room 1 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM
- March 22, 2022 Informational Meeting at Administration Boardroom from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
- March 28, 2022: 2022-2023 Electronic Applications Due by 4:30 p.m.
- April 8, 2022: 2022-2023 DLI Lottery conducted at Administration Boardroom, starting 8:30 AM

New Enrollment Eligibility
New enrollment into DLI program is open to:- Native Spanish speakers (K-5) who qualify per Chapter 89 of TEC.
- Incoming 2022-2023 kindergartners through the lottery process.
- Incoming 2022-2023 first grade students through the lottery process if space is available and there is a balance of English and Spanish learners.
- Consideration is given to students transferring from a DLI program in another district. Placement will be after the lottery process and will be based on available space and balance of English & Spanish learners. Placement decisions will be made by the Director of Dual Language.

Application Process

- Complete the application no later than Monday, March 28, 2022 by 4:30 PM.
- No applications will be taken for any reason after the time and date provided above.
- In the event that the family has more than one learner who needs to apply, please complete an application for each learner and note the sibling's name(s) appropriately on each application.
- All learners interested in participating in the Dual Language Immersion program will need to complete and turn in the DLI application.
- Learners who have a sibling in the program will be placed as part of the District’s Legacy practice.
- All other openings for the program will be filled by lottery according to the DLI campus to which the student is zoned. (See campus zones above.)
- The goal of the process is to ensure a transparent, orderly, and fair process for placing learners in the Dual Language Program.
- Coppell students currently in DLI do not need to reapply each year.

Lottery and Drawing Guidelines
- The lottery will be an open process held at the Administration Building.
- One learner name will be pulled at a time.
- The learner name will then be placed on the lottery chart in the sequential order it was drawn.
- This process will be completed until all names are drawn.
- All additional names will be placed in the order selected on the wait list.
- Students who apply for the DLI program in Kindergarten, and were placed on the waiting list, must re-apply in first grade if they choose to participate in the program. The wait list does not roll to the next school year.
- Once all names have been pulled, each parent will be emailed by the following Monday.
- Learners on the wait list will be notified of participation in the program no later than Friday the week of Labor Day.
- If learners on the wait list refuse the opening, the district will move to the next name in numerical order on the list.
