The app Visual Speaking began with a simple problem: create a less expensive and easy to use alternative to eye tracking. The initial design was very close to what the final product is, as my client had some very specific requests for how the design worked. The app has 4 boxes that have both a picture and some text. When the image is pressed, the text is spoken. All of the boxes are editable to increase the flexibility of the app.
The largest changes to the app were behind the scenes, and the only major change to the design was how to access the edit screen for each box. These changes make it easier for the app to grow in the future, and there are a couple of major upgrades that I have planned for the future.
I am Jacob Chappell, an engineering student at Coppell High School. I started developing apps in late 2019 and will probably continue to make them. Besides Visual Speaking, I have another app that I am planning on finishing in a month or two that is focused on school safety.
Coppell ISD built the Visual Speaking app as a free app. This app is provided by Coppell ISD at no cost and is intended for use as is.
