Dear CISD Families, We have made it through the last day of what certainly has been a memorable school year. By coming together as a CISD community, I believe we took a lemon of a situation and made lemonade! I want to thank our educators, our staff, our parents and guardians, and our community for their support during this time. I cannot say enough how proud I am to lead this incredible school district.
I want to share a special note of appreciation to our 2020 graduating seniors. You all have been through so much, yet have handled this unprecedented situation with grit, grace and Cowboy spirit! You were a special class even before this COVID-19 situation. You will be remembered for truly showing ‘Cowboy Fight Never Dies!’ I join your parents and guardians, families, teachers and school staff, our CISD Board of Trustees and community in being #CISDProud for having been part of your story. As these Coppell High School and New Tech High @ Coppell graduates enter the next chapter of their lives — whether it be going to college or university, entering the military service or starting their careers — I know they will leave their mark on our society and make our community a better place! Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
In conclusion, I want our entire CISD community to know that your partnership during these times and always is appreciated. As we head into summer, please continue to visit our website, check your emails and follow CISD social media channels for any updates about the 2020-2021 school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brad Hunt

Newsies Wins Three National Awards
Under the leadership of CHS Theatre Director Karen Ruth, the fall production of “Newsies” won three Schmidt and Jones High School Musical Theatre Awards. The musical won Best Ensemble, Best Choreography and Junior Tiffany Mares-Camarena won Best Actress in a Minor Role for her part of “Les.” Congratulations CHS Theatre!
Karl Pointer NFHS State Track Coach of the YearThe following is excerpted from an article that originally appeared in the CHS student newspaper, The Sidekick. It was written by Laasya Achanta, a senior at CHS.
After coaching track and field at Coppell High School for seven years, the National Federation of State High School Texas Boys Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year was awarded to Coppell Coach Karl Pointer in recognition for his outstanding efforts. Coppell senior Samir Thota cites Mr. Pointer as a main source of support for his transition from football to track and field after he left football after his sophomore year.
“Coach really creates a competitive environment and he pushes us to get better, but he’s also very understanding of your situation,” Thota said. “He takes into consideration what your strengths and weaknesses are.”
