    Dear CISD Families,

I want to briefly share where we are in our return to school planning for the upcoming school year. As discussed during our Board Workshop Monday, our school calendar for 2020-2021 remains in place as is, with the options to make changes as needed. A subset of our Calendar Committee has reviewed our current calendar and believes we have enough flexibility to make adjustments, if needed. Any changes will be communicated in as much advanced notice as possible. We also have formed a Return to School Task Force to help our district shape what the next school year will look like. Input from our families is a crucial part of our planning process, so I encourage you to complete the survey at go.coppellisd.com/ReturnSchoolSurvey by June 15. We are using this feedback, along with local, state and federal guidelines, to assist us with our return to school planning. We know information can change quickly, so we also have created the website www.coppellisd.com/returntoschool, which has important messages and updates from us about the next school year.

I want to end by saying that my message last week is just the beginning of crucial conversations and actions from our district regarding diversity, especially addressing needs of our African American students and families. In case you weren’t aware, CISD has offered Unconscious Bias training for many years, and we plan to expand this training in the next school year. In addition, our Diversity Committee has evolved into a Strength in Unity Committee, which also helps guide the district’s actions. We are a strong community, and I believe we are stronger together when it comes to addressing hard issues. We must continue to do more and be better in our commitment to serve all of our students. I look forward to doing this together as a CISD community.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Brad Hunt
