    Dear CISD Families,

I want to begin with a brief update on returning to school in the fall. On Tuesday, the Texas Education Agency shared information about models for virtual instruction, but no further guidance was provided regarding in-person instruction. TEA Commissioner Mike Morath said the agency will provide further guidance at a later date, which is yet to be determined. As shared last week, we will use TEA guidelines, feedback from our employees and parents/guardians shared in our recent survey and other information in our return to school planning. CISD will conduct another parent/guardian survey next week and will host a Facebook Live on Return to School July 16. Please continue to check www.coppellisd.com/returntoschool for updates. In addition, be on the lookout next Tuesday for additional information from CISD regarding our reopening of schools. As shared previously, CISD is not adjusting our school calendar at this time and is planning for the first day of school to be August 12, 2020.

On another note, I am extremely proud of our Board of Trustees, who passed a Diversity and Inclusion Resolution at their June 22 meeting. This resolution is just one of the action steps CISD is taking to show our commitment to address systemic racism towards ethnically diverse students and improving the educational experience of all learners. You can read this resolution at go.coppellisd.com/DiversityResolution and learn more about what happened at Monday’s meeting in the article below.

At the June board meeting we also recognized our employees with 30 and 35 years of service to CISD. We are very proud of these employees and thank them for the many years of service to this district. You can read more about these outstanding employees in this edition of Informed.

I hope you continue to enjoy the summer with your family.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Brad Hunt
