Dear CISD Families,
The 87th Texas Legislative Session convened this week. As public education is one of the largest entities in the state and its funding is second only to health care, the decisions of our legislators affect our community. In addition to school finance, there are already several education bills in the works that will directly impact our students, staff and community. Coppell ISD will be active in keeping our community informed about the session and will work with our elected officials on legislation that could impact the Texas public education system, our district, our educators and our students.
In addition to other bills being considered, CISD believes that funding public education must remain a top priority for the state and the momentum from the last session should be maintained. The district calls upon the legislature to maintain its commitment to fund House Bill 3 at the level it committed to in the 2019 legislative session, equitably share the cost of education with local public school districts and protect our fund balance from being considered as solutions to state funding shortfalls.
In addition to our efforts, I encourage our community to be informed about the legislative session and to reach out to your representatives. While they will be hearing from us as a district, the voice of their constituents, including teachers, parents and taxpayers, is considered powerful and one that they value.
I hope you enjoy the long weekend with your families.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brad Hunt
