Professional Learning Program Philosophy

  • Through a focus on student engagement through differentiation, the goal of professional learning is to provide meaningful and thought provoking learning opportunities through a variety of formats (face-to-face, online and/or blended) so that all CISD faculty, staff and administration will be able to collaborate, innovate and facilitate customized learning for each CISD student.

    We are fortunate to have exemplary teachers serving our children. It is our highest priority to support our educators in their efforts by providing opportunities for them to increase their skills and knowledge through collaboration and access to information. To achieve this goal, we believe that we must build a learning community where all employees work together daily to solve problems, create a vision, and build personal and district-wide capacity.

Collaborative Learning Teams As Professional Development

  • Coppell ISD has a forward-thinking approach to professional development. We believe that the most powerful professional growth occurs when teachers collaborate to examine and improve instructional strategies, assessments, and student work. We achieve this form of staff development through our professional learning communities (PLCs). All instructional staff participate in PLCs of 3-6 staff members who identify their learning needs and work together to refine learning design and instruction to respond to the unique challenges they face. Additionally, all educators have time built into the daily schedule for designing learning, analyzing data, studying the curriculum and working with colleagues to implement best practices. Knowing that the most important school-based factor in student success is an effective teacher, CISD is committed to providing the time and support to our teachers to help them be the best that they can be. 

Local Requirements

  • The Coppell ISD calendar has established 10 calendar days for professional learning -- seven (7) district/campus professional learning days plus three (3) flex days.
