TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System)
In response to federal testing requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001, The Texas Education Agency developed the TELPAS. This system has two components:
- TELPAS Reading assesses reading in grades 2-12
- The TELPAS holistic rating process is used to assess students in grades K-2 in listening, speaking, reading, writing. Students in grades 3-12 are assessed in listening, speaking, and writing.
Both components are designed to address the progress that limited English proficient (LEP) students make in learning the English language.
