Joyce Alcorn, BSN, RN, NCSN
Nationally Certified School Nurse
Joyce Alcorn started her school nursing career with CISD in 2000 and began coordinating the Health Services Department in 2012. Previously, Ms. Alcorn worked in the post-cardiac surgery, trauma, and general intensive care units in the hospital setting. Joyce holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgia State University. Ms. Alcorn grew up in Ames, Iowa and has lived in Coppell since 1993. She and her husband, Mark, have a son, Colin (NTH@Coppell '11), and a daughter, Erin (CHS '08). In her free time, Joyce loves to spend time with family, traveling, music, yoga, and reading.
Coppell High School
Beth Dorn, RN
Ms. Dorn has enjoyed working with Coppell ISD students since 2006. She is a native of South Carolina and has lived in Texas for 20 years. Before working for the District, Ms. Dorn worked in the medical-surgical, orthopedic, and geriatric specialties. Her degree comes from Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. Beth has two daughters and a son, all graduates of CHS. Ms. Dorn enjoys tennis, biking, and learning to play golf.
New Tech High @ Coppell
Cheryl Faulkner, BSN, RN
Cheryl Faulkner is a Texas native and joined Coppell ISD in 2011. Previously Ms. Faulkner worked in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at the UT Southwestern Medical Center and in Urgent Care with Cook Children's Medical Center. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Harris College of Nursing at Texas Christian University and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Concordia University. Ms. Faulkner enjoys promoting health and wellness to Coppell ISD students and sharing with them how the body works. In her free time, Ms. Faulkner enjoys crafting, baseball, and college football. She and her husband have two daughters.
Coppell Middle School North
Jeannie Tierney, BSN, RN
Ms. Tierney grew up in Ohio and moved to Texas in 1999. Before joining the Coppell ISD staff, Ms. Tierney's experience included working with bone marrow transplant patients in the hematology and oncology units. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Mary's College at Notre Dame, Indiana. She is married to her husband of 19 years and has two children, Michael and Megan.
Janie Hyslop, RN
Ms. Hyslop joined CISD in 2008 after several nursing experiences in women's services, including parent and childbirth education and her time as a discharge nurse and OB/GYN office nurse. Ms. Hyslop loves the Austin kids and feels school nursing is the perfect situation for her to use her teaching and nursing skills together. Originally from Indiana, she moved to Plano during high school. Ms. Hyslop is a graduate of Brookhaven College. She and her husband, Tommy, have three children, Emily, Riley, and Luke. Ms. Hyslop enjoys attending her children's activities, traveling, and reading.
Denton Creek Elementary
Chelle Shepherd, BSN, RN
Ms. Shepherd joined Coppell ISD in 2019. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her experience includes general pediatrics, acute care medical-surgical, and most recently, pulmonology, at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Chelle and her family spent five years living overseas in Wales, where she was a care assistant in several nursing settings. Chelle and her husband, Tyler, have two children-- Aspen and River. In her free time, Chelle enjoys traveling, playing music, and riding bicycles with her family.
Ameria Olayan, BSN, RN
Ameira Olayan joined CISD in 2018. She graduated in 2008 from Kansas Newman University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Before school nursing, she worked in Critical Care, Surgery, and Recovery. Ameira and her husband have 3 children, Ayah, Layal, and Ali, all are students in Coppell ISD. She speaks Arabic as a second language, and enjoys traveling with her family, Paddleboarding, and playing the Ukulele.
Andrea Grimaldo Mull, BSN, RN
Andrea joined CISD in 2019. She graduated from the University of Dallas in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She graduated from TWU in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as a Medical-Surgical nurse at Texas Health HEB and most recently as an Ambulatory Float Nurse at Children's Medical Center Dallas.
Valley Ranch Elementray
Kathleen Valenski, BSN, RN
After spending twenty years as a Labor and Delivery nurse, Ms. Valenski became the school nurse for Valley Ranch Elementary. When asked what she enjoys about school nursing, Ms. Valenski says she loves to make children smile and the ability to help them feel better. Kathleen and her husband of twenty-five years have two children. Their daughter attends Oklahoma State University, and their son is a senior at Coppell High School. Other members of her family include her two golden retrievers and a pug. Ms. Valenski was born and raised in California. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing from Southern Oregon State University. Apart from family and school nursing, she enjoys reading, growing flowers, and learning to knit.
Jill Coss, BSN, RN
Ms. Coss began working with Coppell ISD in 2015. Before school nursing, she worked at Baylor Grapevine Medical Center in the Labor and Delivery/Antepartum Unit as a Registered Nurse. Jill also has experience in the Mother/Baby unit in the hospital. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University and is an alumna of Coppell Middle School West and Coppell High School. Jill and her high school sweetheart, Grant, are proud parents of Tucker and Hallie. They also have a dog named Sadie. Jill enjoys spending time with family and friends, decorating, crafting, reading, and traveling as time allows. She is excited to love on the kiddos at Wilson Elementary this upcoming school year.
Coppell High School 9th Grade Campus
Amy Smith, BSN, RN
Ms. Smith attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in May 2006. Before joining CISD in August 2014, she has worked as a registered nurse at Denton Regional Medical Center, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and Children's Medical Center of Dallas. She has experience in adult cardiac care, pediatric emergency department, orthopedics, asthma, and psychiatry. Amy is married to Justin, and they have two children, Abby and Benjamin. Amy enjoys traveling, yoga, rearranging furniture, painting, and spending time with her family and friends.
Coppell Middle School East
Cindy Beasley, BSN, RN
Ms. Beasley's favorite part about working as a school nurse at CMS-East since 2008 is that she has been doing so in the community where she lives. This has allowed her to strengthen relationships with the neighborhood children and students who she has known most of their lives. Before school nursing, Ms. Beasley gained experience at Baylor University Medical Center in Maternal/Child Health as a childbirth educator and a certified lactation consultant. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Women’s University in Denton. Cindy and her husband, Brent, have three children: Shelby, Nelson, and Jackson, as well as two dachshunds, Daphne and Reese. A native of Texas, Ms. Beasley loves traveling, culture and history, fitness, and water sports such as boating and wakeboarding.
Canyon Ranch Elementary
Ashley Uphaus, BSN, RN
Ashley Uphaus is a Texas Native from Keller, where she grew up with her two sisters and family. From there, she embarked on her nurse journey and graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, with a Nursing degree. Since then, Ms. Uphaus has worked at Children’s Hospital in Dallas in the ICU, home health nursing, and school nursing in another Texas ISD. She has been so excited to bring her love for children, family, and education here at the new Canyon Ranch Campus and looks forward to an amazing year. Ashley loves her role as a school nurse and couldn’t imagine herself anywhere else. Every day she makes it a goal to make a child smile and to ensure the nurse’s office is a safe place at all times. She operates her clinic with a huge heart and compassion for family-centered care and welcomes anyone who has questions or concerns. Ashley now resides in Grapevine with her growing family and in her spare time, enjoys gardening, yoga, reading, cooking, and spending time on the lake with her family.
Cottonwood Creek Elementary
Sandra Brenneman, BSN, RN
Ms. Brenneman began her career as a psychotherapist/counselor at the Vernon State Hospital, where she worked on an outpatient traveling treatment team. She obtained her teaching certifications in biology and psychology and taught high school biology and psychology for 22 years. More recently, Ms. Brenneman returned to school and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She joins CISD with experience in medical-surgical and school nursing.
Becki Lander, BSN, RN
Ms. Lander has been with Coppell ISD since 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University and has spent much of her nursing career working in Women's Health. Becki has four daughters and a dog. If you think her hands are full, you should see her heart! She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Becki loves working at Lakeside Elementary and thinks the best part is seeing the learners grow from year to year.
Meghan McClellan, BSN, RN
Ms. McClellan is a native Texan who grew up in Austin before moving to Fort Worth to attend nursing school at Texas Christian University. After graduating TCU with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing, she began her nursing career in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth and most recently worked in the Surgical Department there. Meghan and her husband Johnathon lived in the Marshall Islands for several years, but currently call Grapevine home with their two daughters Hadley and Tyler, as well as their two dogs Sadie and Gus. In her free time, Meghan enjoys reading, a healthy dose of reality television, and all things football!!! She is looking forward to her first year in Coppell ISD and getting to know all the wonderful students and their families!
Town Center Elementary
Sue Kane, RN
A native of Minnesota, Ms. Kane moved to Texas for what she anticipated would be a short duration. Twenty-two years later, she still resides in Coppell and has worked for the CISD since1996. She became the school nurse at Town Center in 2001 after five years at Austin Elementary. Sue holds a Bachelor of Arts in Health Arts from the College of St. Francis, Illinois, and her nursing degree comes from Rochester Community College in Minnesota. Prior work experience includes a variety of hospital settings - Orthopedics, Adolescent Surgical, Dialysis, and Renal ICU. Ms. Kane and her husband of 33 years, John, have three daughters: Ashley, married to Matt, who is in the army and currently stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Marina, and Tessa. Her grandsons, Marcus and Terrence, are special joys for Sue. In her free time, she loves reading and attending garage sales. Sue enjoys her job and feels every day she can make a difference in a student’s life by making them feel cared for and safe.
