Flex Hours Requirement

    • All professional staff on a 187-day and 197-day work schedule are required to complete a minimum of 18 hours of professional learning.  These days are a part of your contract.
    • All instructional paraprofessionals on a 187-day and 197-day work schedule are required to complete a minimum of 8 hours of professional learning. These days are part of your contract.
    • Non-instructional paraprofessionals must accumulate 24 hours of comp time.
    • Campus administration is responsible for approving and reporting completion of flex hours to the Business Office for staff members.
    • Staff members are expected to gain approval for flex hours prior to registering for and/or attending a session.
    • The flex hours must relate to the current teaching assignment and area of content certification.
    • If the minimum number of hours is not completed, the employee’s salary will be docked.
      • Exempt employees (professional staff):
        • Earning less than 6 hours will be docked 3 day's pay
        • Earning between 6 and 11.5 hours will be docked 2 day's pay
        • Earning between 11.5 hours and 17.5 hours will be docked 1 day's pay
      • Non-exempt employees (paraprofessionals):
        • Earning less than 24 hours (3 days) will be docked in 1/2 day increment.
    • If an employee is receiving pay from any source for attending an activity/workshop, the activity/workshop is NOT eligible for flex hour credit. (It is, however, permissible for CISD to pay employee registration.
    • Each employee is responsible for keeping this record of his/her flex days and providing documentation according to procedures established by each campus principal.
    • For out-of-district workshops, proof of attendance must be provided to campus administration.
    • Workshops and training offered by CISD Curriculum Department will allow staff to elect flex credit within the Eduphoria! Workshop application with prior approval from campus administration.
    • Campus administration is expected to use the features with the Eduphoria! Workshop application to verify and approve employee flex hour requests.
    • Up to 6 hours of Graduate coursework, per year, may be requested for flex hour credit.  Final approval is up to campus administration.
    • PDAS/CISD Educator Evaluation and State Assessment training are NOT eligible for FLEX hour credit.
    • Campus and/or District content/program managerial meetings are NOT eligible for FLEX hour credit.
