Congratulations National Merit Semifinalists!

Eleven Coppell High School students have been named semifinalists in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program: Thomas Carlson, Christina Coker, Arjun Dhanik, Sarah Gellman, Allison Jordan, Mai Le, Julia Meter, John Salvie, Nitin Seemakurty, Amy Seitz, and Shitong Sun. "Each one of these students are to be commended and we are very proud of their accomplishment. They represent the academic excellence that has become synonymous with the Coppell public school system and they exemplify the skills and determination necessary to achieve at such high levels. I wish them continued success in their future academic endeavors," said Dr. Jeff Turner, Superintendent. The semifinalists will be recognized publicly by the Board of Trustees during the regular monthly Board Meeting set for Monday, September 25th. Panel to Hear Ideas During Public Forum - Sept. 26th

The CISD community is invited to participate in a public forum designed to gather input on the topic of "CHS for the Future: Enhancing the High School Experience for Students in CISD." The event will be held at the CHS Lecture Hall on the evening of Tuesday, September 26th from 7-8:30 p.m. All those wishing to offer comments/suggestions on the topic will be asked to sign-in prior to the 7:00 p.m. start time.

The panel that will be listening to the community's input include: CISD School Board President Kathie Gautille, Trustee Scott Orr, Superintendent Dr. Jeff Turner, and Associate Superintendent for School Improvement, Shannon Buerk. The role of this panel is to gather input and ask clarifying questions centered on the following five categories: Transitions(eg. middle to high school), Connectivity (eg. school pride), Scheduling, Curriculum/Instruction, and Communication. The panel will not be presenting information to the public on this occasion and participants are asked to consider ways in which they would complete the following statement: One way I think we could enhance the CHS experience would be...

Cyber Safety - Closing the Information Gap

The Coppell ISD in partnership with the Attorney General's Office will present a Town Hall Meeting on Cyber Safety in the Auditorim of Coppell High School on Wednesday, October 4th from 6:30 - 8 p.m. This informative session will address new technologies being used more and more by child predators including MySpace, Xanga, chatrooms, and blogs and will provide parents real information about the real risks in an attempt to close the information gap. Upcoming Staff Development & Holiday

Coppell ISD staff will participate in a half-day of Staff Development set for Thursday, October 5th. Parents should check with their child's campus for specific early release times on that day. Students will not attend classes on Friday, October 6th during a full day of Staff Development. The entire district will be closed on Monday, October 9th in observance of the district's State Fair Day. Classes and regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, October 10th.
