CHS Band Ranks
#7 in Texas!
Congratulations Coppell High School marching band! The Cowboy band returned from this year's UIL state contest on
Wednesday bearing the title of 7th among class 5-A high schools in Texas. Thirty-one
bands competed in the state contest but only 10 moved on to the final
round. CHS finished 3rd in the preliminary round to earn a final chance at
the state title. A new team of judges was assigned to the final round and
CHS's 9:30 p.m. performance was very strong. This year, half of the top ten
bands competing in the finals were from the Metroplex, one was from the Houston area, two from Austin,
and two were from San Antonio.

Academy/Magnet to Curb Overcrowding at CHS
A year ago October, the Board of
Trustees called for a group of community and staff members to evaluate
the current situation at Coppell High School and present viable options
to address overcrowding. The Grade Alignment Committee was formed and
met throughout the spring of 2006. During that time, committee members
researched options and solicited information from other community
members. A summary of their work was presented at a Board meeting in
May 2006. The Grade Alignment committee ultimately supported two viable
solutions: a Ninth Grade Center and an Academy/Magnet school.
In September 2006, the Board discussed
the recommendation from the Grade Alignment Committee and asked Dr.
Turner to have staff report further on the pros/cons regarding the
academic impact of both alternatives. Visit the Grade Alignment folder
on the CISD homepage (www.coppellisd.com) for more details.
The Board requested more information about
the Academy/Magnet concept and how other districts were implementing
this school of choice option for students. After further discussion at
the November 7 Board workshop, the CISD Board of Trustees concluded
they would be ready to take action regarding moving forward with the
process of developing an Academy/Magnet school in the district. The
action item will be included on the November 27 Board agenda. For more
information contact the Department of Communications & Public
Relations at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Kids4Turkeys Annual Drive Coming Up!
The district will once again
participate in a trukey drive in cooperation with the North Texas Food
Bank. Over 2,000 turkeys equalling $30,000 were collected by the
district last year and this year's goal is to hit the 3,000 mark! Turkeys
may be dropped-off at every campus in the district on Friday, November
the 17th. Check with your campus regarding drop-off locations and
CISD will be closed for the
Thanksgiving break from Monday, November 20th through Friday, November
24th. Classes will resume on Monday, November 27th.
