Welcome to my website!
I will be teaching Texas History again this year, and I enjoy it too! When I taught years of British literature and American literature at the high school level, I loved teaching the historical aspect of it and how the events of that time period affected and impacted authors and their writing, i.e. Anglo-Saxon Old English, the medieval era, the Renaissance, the Englightenment, the Industrial Revolution, the Romantic Period, the Roaring 20's in America, the Great Depression & migrant workers, post World War II Cold War era in relation to McCarthyism in the early 1950's versus the early colonial period that saw the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, and the 1960's Civil Rights movement, to name a few, but with being a native-born Texan myself, I love teaching the rich history of Texas! Texas may only be home to us (collectively speaking), but it's much bigger than that, as Texas has made a profound impact on the world and possesses a greatness our learners will soon come to learn about! Historian Jack C. Butterfield once said of this inspiration, "The miracle of Texas lies in the fact that it is the work of a handful of men. In not a single fight during the entire period from 1800-1845 did they muster as many as one thousand fighting men. Overwhelming odds never discouraged them and defeat but spurred them to ultimate victory."
Nonetheless, I taught at the high school level for 12 years before working with middle school kids. This is my 6th year at Coppell Middle School West, and in keeping with district resources, all course information can be found in my course on Schoology and can be accessed via the link below. Thank you very much, and I'm looking forward to another successful year in education!
On a more personal note, pictured here is Sean (my youngest) while vacationing in Florida a couple of years ago during the celebration of our nation's freedom during the 4th of July week. He was curious about this historic little school house at first before seeing it and thought for sure he would have to attend it when we told him we considered moving to the area. Needless to say, he was relieved to find out otherwise and was more than happy to take this pic afterward.
Sean also has a love for baseball too and struck out 5 batters in two innings during this semi-finals game in the spring while working on the 6th batter too before he stepped out of the batter's box after two strikes and taking some cuts before going back in. Nonetheless, this key win advanced them to the championship where they clenched it. See pics below.
