CISD Picked for Oprah's "Big Give"When Oprah's "Big Give" got wind of the North Texas Food Bank's idea to feed hungry kids on the weekends, who do you think NTFB called to help out? Coppell ISD, that's who! Because of the district's HUGE response to the Bank's annual turkey drive "Kids 4 Turkeys," the brainchild of Cottonwood Creek Elementary PE Teacher Tammy Gilstrap, NTFB had no doubt CISD could get the job done.
The district's goal for Oprah's "Big Give" is to collect 10,000 - 18 oz. plastic jars of peanut butter for needy kids. The North Texas Food Bank has provided collection boxes for every CISD campus and students are asked to bring their donations of peanut butter to their school on Friday, April 18th for the official drop off.
CISD currently leads the state in hosting the largest annual district-sponsored turkey drive which began six years ago at CCE in partnership with the North Texas Food Bank. More than 30,000 pounds of turkeys are donated annually by Coppell students to feed needy North Texas familes.
