• Coppell ISD Administrative Changes for 2008-09

    Coppell ISD principal Joy Smartt will soon join the district’s curriculum team as the Director of Mathematics K-8. A veteran teacher and administrator for 30 years, Mrs. Smartt began as an elementary classroom teacher, then served as an elementary consultant, and an instructional specialist. Joy accepted her first administrative position in CISD as an assistant principal for the Lee and Valley Ranch Elementary campuses in 1996 and went on to become the principal for Pinkerton Elementary in 1998.

    An Elementary Education major with a minor in sociology, Joy received her Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University, her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Texas, and her Mid-Management Certification from Texas A & M Commerce.

    Also in Coppell ISD, Kristi Mikkelsen, former principal of Lee Elementary, was named principal of Pinkerton Elementary. Kristi began teaching at the kindergarten level in 1991 and taught first through third grades prior to serving in an administrative capacity. In 1998, Kristi came to Coppell ISD where she served as an assistant principal on the Valley Ranch, Cottonwood Creek, and Denton Creek Elementary campuses before assuming the role of principal at Lee.

    Mrs. Mikkelsen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Texas in 1991 and completed a Masters of Education degree, also from UNT, in 2001.
