CISD Board Manages Student Enrollment
During this week's special meeting, the Board of Trustees discussed boundary adjustments that would relieve some of the campus overcrowding due to the high growth in the Valley Ranch Elementary area. The following scenarios were considered by the Board to be viable solutions as they impact the fewest number of students and campuses, provide a better balance between student enrollments in the south east quadrant of the school district, and offer travel solutions closest to the Valley Ranch area:
Students residing in the “Casitas” and “Villas” patio homes and in the “Reflections” apartments who are currently attending Valley Ranch Elementary would be rezoned to attend Lakeside Elementary beginning in fall 2011. These students would have two middle school options: 1) go to Coppell Middle School West (where they are currently zoned to attend), and their transportation would be provided by CISD, or 2) go to Coppell Middle School North and be responsible for their own transportation. (Approximately 41 fewer students at Valley Ranch Elementary would bring their enrollment closer to 600 and increase Lakeside's enrollment to about 519 students.)
Students residing in the “Vista Pointe Apartments” who now attend Mockingbird Elementary would be rezoned to attend Austin Elementary beginning in fall 2011. The middle school option for those students would continue to be Coppell Middle School East. (The decrease of an estimated 40 students at Mockingbird Elementary would bring their total enrollment to approximately 514 students. Austin Elementary's projected enrollment would then be approximately 513 students.)
The community is invited to provide input on the boundary rezoning during the Open Forum portion of the Regular Board Meeting on Monday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m.
