Souper Bowl of Caring Kicks off in CISD
This past year, Coppell High School students raised over 16,800 food items for their charity of choice, Christian Community Action (CCA), making it the largest Souper Bowl of Caring collection of any school in the nation. This year, nearly 3,000 students from Coppell High School and New Tech High at Coppell will work together to tackle hunger for their community through Souper Bowl of Caring.
On Friday, Jan. 13th, Dallas Cowboy's legend, Drew Pearson joined students from both Coppell high schools to kick off the Souper Bowl of Caring campaign which runs through NFL Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 5. During this time North Texans are encouraged to join over 250 participating area schools and churches by raising donations for local hunger-relief charities and volunteering through service projects. "The need for hunger relief is more apparent than ever in North Texas" said Jan Pruitt, President and Chief Executive Officer for the North Texas Food Bank. "It truly takes the entire community to make a difference." This year's community goal is to raise $1.2 million in food items and cash which will provide over 3.5 million meals for families across North Texas.
Both CHS and NTH@C will be accepting food item donations at their campus drop-off locations during school hours on weekdays until Friday, February 3.
During this time, competitive retailers will also be working together to encourage the local community to make a Souper Bowl of Caring donation while they do their shopping. Customers can buy a pre-packaged bag or make a cash donation at over 200 Albertsons, Kroger, Market Street and Tom Thumb locations across North Texas.
The majority of in-store donations will benefit the North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank, which together serve nearly 550 hunger relief agencies in 25 North Texas counties. "It is inspiring to see so many young people participate year after year alongside our grocery and media partners and volunteers" said Bo Soderbergh the Executive Director of the Tarrant Area Food Bank. "Hunger is with us 365 days a year. By working together, we will make a difference."
