CHS Makes Newsweek's Best High Schools List
Newsweek recently released their 2010 list of America's Best High Schools. Coppell High School ranked 456 of the top 1,623 high schools across the country. The list is comprised of the top 6% of the some 27,000 U.S. high schools.
Newsweek researchers compiled the 2010 list using a calculated ratio (or index): the number of AP, IB and/or Cambridge tests taken by students in all grade levels during 2009 divided by the number of 2009 graduates. Researchers also used an “Equity and Excellence” (E&E) rate, which is the percentage of all 2009 graduating seniors who had at least one score of 3 or above on at least one AP exam while they were in high school. This year CHS earned an index of 2.378 and E&E of 42.7.
127 Texas schools made the “Best List” with approximately 43, or 1/3, of those schools being in the DFW Metroplex. Other North Texas schools on the list include Allen HS at 1,104, Colleyville HS at 170, Flower Mound HS at 788, Grapevine HS at 342, Hebron HS at 871, Highland Park HS at 36, L.D. Bell HS at 938, Plano East HS at 858, Plano West HS at 353, and Southlake Carroll HS at 531.
