Middle School Bands Advance to State Competition
Recently, Coppell Middle Schools East and North Bands advanced to the state level in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Band Competition. To qualify, bands from around the state submitted recordings of two selected pieces from a UIL provided list and one marching piece of their own choosing. At the Regional level, submissions were ranked by a panel of judges and the top two bands were chosen to advance to the Area competition. Out of the 28 regions, 56 bands were invited to compete in the next round.
The bands travelled to Georgetown for the Area competition on June 27th. After performing, only two bands from each Area were chosen to advance to the State level. CMS East took home the first place trophy and CMS North placed second in our Area.
The State contest will be held in San Antonio on Sunday, July 24. This is the first time Coppell has ever had two middle school bands competing at the State Honor Competition at the same time. The CMS North Band won the state honor band title in 2007 and came in first runner up in 2010. The CMS East Band has not participated at the state level since 2001.
