Student Artists Honored During Youth Art Month
March marks Youth Art Month (YAM) across the nation. Eight Coppell ISD students are being honored for their artistic talents in a variety of ways.
As a part of the YAM celebration, the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) sponsors a flag design contest. Districts across the state submitted art work but, Coppell High School student Chenglei W.'s artwork was selected as the winner. His flag design will represent Texas at the National Youth Art Month celebration and be flown at both the state capitol and in Washington D.C. this spring.
TAEA also hosts an exhibit of student art work that will be displayed in the south extension of the Capitol Building, March 6-13, 2010. The exhibit will consist of 100 pieces from across the state, including artwork from three CISD students: CMS West student Emily C., CMS East student Jinny R., and CHS student Maria W. These students will be honored at an awards celebration and reception at the State Capitol on March 7, 2010.
Additionally, four CHS students had pieces selected for the 2010 Young Masters Exhibition. This exhibition was created over twelve years ago to recognize outstanding artistic expression in Dallas area AP arts students. Out of more than 300 entries, 45 were selected for the exhibit, including pieces by CHS students Hannah K., Robert L., Sarah L., and Chris W. The 2010 Young Masters Exhibition will be heldFebruary 26 – April 18, 2010in the Concourse Gallery at the Dallas Museum of Art. The featured students will also be honored at a reception on March 9, 2010.
