Marching Band Gets International Nod
The Coppell High School Marching Band was recently awarded "The Sudler Shield" by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. This award recognizes marching band programs throughout the world that reach a world class level of excellence in musical performance, marching execution, choreography and show design for high school, youth or international marching bands.
Only 48 bands worldwide have received this award in the past 20 years. For the 2008 award, only three bands were selected, all from the United States.
A jury of sixteen college, university and high school band directors voted on the award. The announcement of the award was made at the annual Mid-West Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago on December 19. A formal presentation to the CHS Band will be made later this spring at a concert where members of the committee will attend to honor our students.
