It has been just over a year since settling the lawsuits surrounding the mothballed 1700 acre TXU Power Plant on Beltline Road, and over five years since first hearing of the plan to create a residential development on this property. In the settlement, CISD purchased 122 acres in four separate tracts for potential school sites.
Since that time, the developer has been working on plans to get water and sewer to the development as well as finalizing some of the plans. Sid Grant, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Support Services, has been participating in the planning stages as a CISD representative. At this time, plans call for beginning the dirt work for Phase I early in 2010, starting on both commercial and residential units in 2011, with Phase I completion in 2012. Phase I includes about 500 multifamily apartment units. CISD predicts that during the 2011-2012 school term, the first students from this development will enter Coppell schools. Total build out is limited to 10,000 units and is expected to take 10-15 years.
