Engineering Expo 2011 Coming!
Coppell High School’s School of Engineering and the CHS Engineering Booster Club are hosting the fourth annual Coppell Engineering Expo from 2:00 pm until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 6th, 2011 at Coppell High School, 185 W. Parkway Blvd, Coppell, Texas. The event is free to the public. EXPO 2010 attracted over 2000 attendees, and with an impressive line-up of universities, corporations and speakers, this year’s event is expected to be just as exciting.
The Engineering Expo builds awareness and excitement for engineering and technology careers among North Texas high school and middle school students. U.S. universities are graduating fewer and fewer engineers each year. It is hoped that this event will help address our country’s growing need for engineering professionals.
CHS student engineers will display their projects and provide working demonstrations as well. Current projects include the MATE team’s underwater ROV (remotely operated vehicle), the Aurora 2010/11 solar car, robots, rockets and more. To promote the Expo, several CHS engineering students will be guests on Fox 4’s Good Day program during the week leading up to the Expo.
Universities from around the country will meet with students about curriculum, admissions and placement, including the US Air Force Academy, Air Force ROTC, Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, Missouri Science and Technology, MIT, Northwestern University, Drexel, Bradley University, Oklahoma State, Richland College, University of Alabama – Huntsville, SMU, University of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M – Commerce, Notre Dame, University of North Texas, University of Southern California, University of Texas at Arlington, US Naval Academy, US Merchant Marines, University of Texas at Dallas, Vanderbilt, Baylor, University of Kentucky, Washington University - St. Louis, LSU, Purdue and West Point.
Local corporations and organizations involved with engineering will talk with students and Expo attendees about engineering careers, career paths, training, hiring, and more. Companies include AT&T, General Motors, ST Microelectronics, Bell Helicopter, NASA-Johnson Space Center, IBM, RLG Consulting Engineers, North Texas Association of Energy Engineers, American Engineering Association, Southwest Airlines, Society of Women Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers and more.
The Keynote speaker for EXPO 2011 will be Mr. Pat Barrow from the Marine Advanced Technology Education Center. (MATE Center/Oceaneering)
This event is perfect for: (1) high school students who would like to meet representatives from engineering and technology universities from across the country; (2) middle school students interested in technology and engineering; (3) college students who would like to meet practicing engineers and learn more about career opportunities; (4) and anyone interested in a fun afternoon of fascinating speakers and intriguing technology exhibits.
Finally, the program is about building excitement and passion for technology and engineering.
