• It's "Kids 4 Turkeys" Time!

The 8th annual Kids 4 Turkeys Drive will be held on Friday, November 19th from 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. around Coppell. Students, parents, and community members throughout the area are invited to participate in this event by donating frozen turkeys to benefit the North Texas Food Bank. Turkeys may be dropped off at any CISD school or administrative building. Also, this year the City of Coppell is partnering with CISD to offer an additional drop-off location on the grounds of Town Center (City Hall). Virtual donations can be made online at http://vad.aidmatrix.org/vadxml.cfm?driveid=3816 or, by sending on text message. On November 18th and 19th, text NTFB to 85944 to make a $10 donation.

Turkeys will be distributed by the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) to its 260 Member Agencies, which must raise nearly $4 million and nearly 10 million pounds of food to keep up with anticipated needs during the holidays. A 25 to 35 percent increase in the number of clients served over the past 6 months has been reported by NTFB's member agencies due to tough economic times.

Kids 4 Turkeys was created by Cottonwood Creek Elementary P.E. teacher Tammy Gilstrap and has become the model for developing similar service learning activities in school districts across the state. What began as a single campus donation of 200 turkeys its first year has grown to a community-wide donation of some 3,000, as Coppell becomes a “Turkey Town” with the common goal to feed those in need.
