CMSNorth Teacher Receives State Award
Stephanie Ryon, Coppell Middle School North 8th grade math teacher, was recently selected as the secondary level recipient of the T.E.A.C.H. Award (Texas Educators Achieving Classroom Honors), established by the Texas Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (TXASCD) who will recognize Mrs. Ryon at the 2010 Annual Conference in October. Ryon was nominated by Texas ASCD member and Coppell ISD Staff Development Director Michelle King.
Mrs. Ryon has been recognized for inspiring, mentoring, and challenging her students using technology to transform classroom instruction, therefore, increasing student engagement. She provides live online review and tutoring sessions with her students via ustream.tv. Through her Blackboard site, she regularly communicates with both parents and students. Her blog posts include requests for student feedback and reflection on classroom instruction and assignments.
Collaborative student work is a standard in Mrs. Ryon's classes and students pair to create video tutorials-incorporating the use of Flip video cameras and SMARTboard technology. Students are learning concepts deeply while incorporating 21st Century skills such as communication and diplomacy using technology to demonstrate their level of understanding.
