The non-profit organization Children at Risk, in Houston, recently released its rankings of greater Dallas schools. The North Texas rankings include 158 high schools, 292 middle schools and 807 elementary schools. Five CISD schools placed in the top 20 of their respective categories. Coppell High School is ranked 8th out of area high schools, below only magnet schools and Highland Park High School. For middle schools, CMS East, West, and North placed 8th, 9th and 17th respectively. Cottonwood Creek Elementary was ranked 17th in the elementary school category.
A total of over 5,900 schools were ranked statewide. Using the most recent data available, from 2007 or 2008, Children at Risk used up to 14 criteria for measuring schools, including TAKS data, graduation rates, average class size and attendance rates.
