To help reinforce the Coppell Independent School District’s stated mission of global leadership, selected Coppell High School government students, as well as those serving on the Junior World Affairs Council (JWAC) at CHS, had the opportunity to meet the Turkish Consul General Akil Oktem. New to the United States, Mr. Oktem toured CHS accompanied by the school’s student ambassadors the “Red Jackets,” gave a brief presentation in the Lecture Hall, and answered student questions as he attempted to learn more about secondary schools and the U.S. A special student-hosted reception was also held for the consulate at the end of the event. Mrs. Rita Bauer, CHS government teacher, was instrumental in securing the visit and, Social Studies Department Chair Valerie Garnier, helped organize the event. Mr. Oktem’s brief visit to Texas also included a stop at Texas Women’s University.
