Trustees Preserve School Name
The Board of Trustees will be honoring Richard J. Lee, former Trustee and Lee Elementary's namesake for over 25 years, on Monday night, April 21, 2008. In addition to recognition for his years of service to the district, the Board will actually vote to preserve Richard's name for a future site in Coppell ISD.
Mr. Lee has remained a dedicated civil servant and staunch supporter of this school system since back in 1945 when he moved to Coppell to start the fifth grade. He attended Coppell schools until the eighth grade in 1949, then Carrollton schools, including Carrollton High School where he graduated, because there was no high school in Coppell.
Richard married Barbara Melton, a native of Coppell, in 1958, and was appointed to the Coppell Board of Trustees in the fall of 1963. He remained on the Board until December of 1982 having served as Board President several times during his tenure. Richard and Barbara's three children attended Coppell schools and their daughter Gay Dobecka (1978 CHS graduate) has continued the family legacy of educational involvement as the physical education teacher for Austin Elementary.
Monday's Board meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Vonita White Administration Building.
