• Coppell Ranked 14th Best Suburb in DFW

Coppell was ranked the 14th best suburb in Dallas/Fort Worth for 2008 in the July edition of D Magazine.

The ranking was based on safety, education, housing values, and ambiance, each worth 25% of a suburb’s total score.

Coppell exceeded “14th best” in the following educational areas:

    • 4th for the percentage of students who passed TAKS (behind University Park, Southlake, and Highland Park)
    • 4th in a three-way tie with Grapevine and Colleyville for the highest percentage of students taking the SAT or ACT (behind University Park, Southlake, and Highland Park)
    • 7th for the highest mean SAT score (behind University Park, Southlake, Highland Park, Parker, Murphy, and Plano)

Safety used statistics from seven crimes- murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and auto theft.  Education was calculated from the percentage of students passing the TAKS test in 2007, the mean SAT score of the class of 2006, percent of the class of 2006 taking college admission exams, and the amount of money a school district spent on instructional expenses for the 2005-2006 school year.  Housing was based on the percentage of owner-occupied homes and the increased average home sales price from 2005-2007.  The ambience factor was partly based on air quality and also allowed for some subjectivity.
