• CISD Reviews Legislation

Although new graduation requirements have been mandated by the 81st Legislature through House Bill 3 (HB 3), how and when the new course offerings and credit changes will be implemented in CISD have yet to be determined. Under the bill, the State Board of Education (SBOE) is not permitted to designate a specific course or specific number of credits in the enrichment curriculum as requirements for the state's Recommended program, except as allowed in the statute.

The school district is currently working with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), and many other organizations to analyze the changes and establish a protocol for implementation. A special work session for the Board to discuss the issue and review staff recommendations will be held in August at the Vonita White Administration Building and, though the September 1, 2009 effective date was set by the Legislature, CISD will not make any schedule changes, called for in House Bill 3, until the review process has been completed.
