• Hail, Strong Winds, Rain Damage CISD Buildings

Coppell ISD and the community weathered last week's unpredictable hail storm, but not without significant damage. The district worked closely with city officials and thankfully, all students and staff were protected under the "take shelter" procedures that had been put into practice on every campus. Building damages included everything from roofs to some skylights, and air conditioning units. Those most adversely affected included Austin Elementary, New Tech High @ Coppell, Pinkerton Elementary, Coppell Middle School West, the Support Service Center, and the Vonita White Administration Building. Student and staff automobiles, left unprotected from the hail and high winds, also suffered extensive damage, but fortunately, no glass windows or doors in any of the CISD buildings were broken. District maintenance and custodial crews have begun the repair and cleanup of affected areas.

While CISD reviews its emergency response strategies for greater efficiencies in future situations, one may expect emergency test messaging of its systems. Parents should take the opportunity to update their portal account to ensure the most current contact information is listed. Don't forget that CISD also uses social media to post notices of these types of events: "like us" on Facebook or "follow us" on Twitter.
