• New Wilson Elementary Principal is Katy Cooper

    Katy Cooper has been selected as the new Principal at Wilson Elementary. She has most recently served as Assistant Principal at Cottonwood Creek Elementary since 2008. Ms. Cooper graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She also holds a Masters of Education from the University of North Texas.

    Katy is going into her eighth year in education; having spent 5 years as a classroom teacher and 2 as an Assistant Principal. She previously taught 1st and 3rd grades in Northwest ISD. She also served as the 2010 Summer School Principal at Wilson.

    During her time in CISD, Ms. Cooper was involved in staff development and has presented numerous sessions on Thinking Maps and brain-based learning. She also served as the Chairperson for the DEIC (District Educational Improvement Council), and on the District Language Arts Textbook Adoption Committee and the Investigations Math implementation team for the district, including the summer training at Harvard.

    “I come from a family of educators and have always had a passion for instilling a love of learning in all children.I am very excited to join the Wilson family and looking forward to a great 2010-2011 school year.I am eager to begin building great relationships with the students, staff, and community!,” said Ms. Cooper about her new role at Wilson.

    Katy has a daughter, Natalie, who will be a 1st grader at Wilson this year. And, her husband, Gary, teaches 3rd grade in Northwest ISD.
