• ACT Scores Show Largest One Year Gain

In a recent college readiness letter from ACT to the superintendent, the achievement of the Coppell High School graduates of 2010 showed their composite scores to be the highest in the history of the Coppell Independent School District at 25.6. The report reflects achievement over time as well as the extent to which students are prepared for college-level coursework.

According to Todd Kettler, CISD Director of Advanced Academics, “The incremental increase over last year is the largest one year gain I have seen in our ACT history,” outpacing both the state and national averages of 20.8 and 21.0, respectively.

Since 2003, Coppell ISD has operated under the direction of a district strategic plan with a curriculum focused on aligning courses to ensure the foundational skills leading to readiness for college-level work are taught, reaffirmed, and articulated across courses. Engaging students in early college and career awareness is also a priority in CISD so that students learn the value of rigorous coursework and understand what they need to know for college and workplace readiness.

Kettler added, “This is an outstanding achievement for the district illustrating the academic impact of increasing the rigor and enrolling students in rigorous classes.”
