CISD Boundary Realignment Update (12/11/18)

The CISD Board of Trustees held its third Board Workshop on boundary realignment Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. As a reminder, Board Workshops are held for the purpose of allowing CISD Board of Trustees to receive more information, and discuss and debate pending matters with CISD staff and amongst themselves before taking a formal vote at a later date. However, since no action is being decided or taken at a Board Workshop, there is no “Open Forum” or other opportunities for the public to address the Board during a Board Workshop.

At the Dec. 10 workshop, Trustees received an update on the elementary school realignment proposed plan. CISD officials also presented an updated proposed Middle School Plan, B3, based on feedback from the Nov. 12 Board Workshop.  CISD also shared its recommendation to the Board, which is Elementary Plan A2 and Middle School Plan B3.

Grandfathering and programs also were discussed.  CISD officials shared that current fourth and seventh graders would be allowed to finish their fifth grade and eighth grade years, if they so choose, at their current school for the 2019-2020 school year.  Siblings of these students also would be allowed to remain at the current campus for one year. Parents and guardians of current fourth and seventh graders, who wish to remain at their current campus for the 2019-2020 school year, will need to fill out a transfer application for these students and siblings.  CISD will not provide bus transportation for these students. CISD will open its transfer application enrollment on March 4, 2019.  Details about district’s transfer process for all students will be released in January 2019.

Programs also were discussed at the Board Workshop.  CISD officials shared that they wish to minimize disruption for special education students during boundary realignment.  They also discussed keeping both Wilson and Denton Creek as Dual Language Immersion Schools and Pinkerton remaining a choice IB school.
