Fourth Nine Weeks Grading Practices
Dear CISD Families,
As we share with you our district grading practices for the fourth nine weeks, which began after Spring Break, we want to remind you of Coppell ISD’s Core Value of Redefining Success. As the full value statement states: We value each individual's contribution because success can be different for everyone.
As we innovatively deliver distance learning, we want to assure that all learners have the opportunity to succeed and are not penalized in any way by our current grading system due to this situation or their family circumstances.
Therefore, grades for the fourth nine weeks in Coppell ISD will be recorded on final report cards as pass or fail.
Here are specific considerations that have influenced our district decision:
- Equity of instruction (platform of delivery face-to-face vs. distance learning)
- Length of time for school closure
- Flexibility during remote instruction
- Family needs during this time
- Impact on learner GPA Class Rank/GPA Cumulative Score
Because of these factors and consulting with neighboring school districts and the Texas Education Agency, grades for the fourth nine weeks for 2019-2020 will be recorded on progress reports and the final report card as pass or fail. Our goal is to ensure all learners experience learning and success within each subject/course. We will closely monitor and partner with students and families to ensure necessary support is in place to ensure deep learning and academic progress occurs. This may include summer school, small group video chat tutorials, tutoring in the fall semester or other interventions as necessary.

As we finish out the 2019-2020 school year, Coppell ISD remains committed to living out our Core Values of Relationships, Engagement, Redefining Success and Great Teaching. We feel this decision reflects these Core Values, while also allowing the district to continue to accomplish our mission of: Working together, we are committed to creating profound learning experiences for each child, while nurturing meaningful relationships, to positively impact our world.
We thank you for your continued support, understanding and grace throughout this process.
