Eight CISD students qualified to compete at the Texas Science and Engineering Fair held March 25-26 at Texas A&M University. Two of these students — Sarang Goel, a sophomore at CHS, and Dhruvesh Ravishankar, an 8th grader at CMS North — placed in the top three in their categories at the state competition. Goel also has qualified to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Atlanta in May, marking the second consecutive year CISD has had a student qualify for international competition.

Goel placed 2nd in the Embedded Systems Category at state and qualified for internationals due to his “grand prize” status from the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair, which was held in February. Ravishankar placed 3rd in the Biomedical Engineering & Computational Biology and Bioinformatics category at state.

Joining Goel and Ravishankar as qualifiers for the state competition were CHS Senior Anshuman Das* and CMS North 7th Graders Anika Krishnamoorthy, Meenakshi Mures, Jenani Sivamani, Anika Upadhyayula and Charvi Vohra.

Ravishankar, Mures, Sivamani, Vohra, Krishnamoorthy, and Upadhyayula have all been invited to participate in the Broadcom Masters science competition for middle school students.
