Wilson Hosts Petting Zoo During Summer School

Elementary Emergent Bilingual Learners attending a Summer School Bridge program at Wilson Elementary experienced a petting zoo on June 29.

According to Summer School Principal Kat Yegge, the summer school students have been learning about animals all week. The students read books like "In the Cow's Backyard" and "Math on the Farm" while singing songs like "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" and doing the "Big Red Barn Rhyming Activity" to expand their English language skills over the summer. The students are also reading books about animals on their iPads and doing writing activities about what they read and saw at the petting zoo.

“Many of these students had never been to a zoo, and lots had never seen an animal besides a dog before today,” Yegge said. “Some walked out the doors and said, ‘You mean they're real?’ It was an amazing experience all around.”

The petting zoo was from Country Critters Farm. Country Critters Farm brought a cow, a donkey, a pony, a pig, 8 goats, 2 sheep, and 2 rabbits to the school.
