Coppell Student Media outlets KCBY-TV and The Sidekick newspaper recently received numerous national honors from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) during the Journalism Education Association and NSPA National High School Journalism Convention held in St. Louis in November. KCBY-TV was recognized as one of only 21 national NSPA Broadcast Pacemaker finalists. The Pacemaker, awarded by the NSPA since 1927, is considered the highest honor in scholastic journalism. KCBY-TV also placed second in Broadcast Best of Show in St. Louis, one of only two Texas schools to receive Broadcast Best of Show and the highest-ranked school from Texas to place.

Coppell Student Media was awarded the top honor in Website Best of Show (enrollment greater than 1,800) by taking first place in St. Louis. After placing as high as second place on multiple occasions in Best of Show, this marks the first time the website has won first place in the competition since its launch in 2008. The Sidekick claimed ninth place in Newspaper Best of Show (enrollment greater than 1,800) in St. Louis and was the only newspaper from Texas to place in the top 10. 

Several student journalists from both KCBY-TV and The Sidekick staff received NSPA Individual Awards and Best of Show Individual honors. These are national honors where students compete with journalists across the country, in addition to a handful of schools overseas.
