CISD Pre-K Going Full Day for 2019-2020

Dear Coppell ISD Families,

Coppell ISD will begin offering full-time Pre-Kindergarten to all eligible students for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. We are making this change from part time to full time Pre-K, so we can provide those who need it the most with the learning skills necessary for success as they begin their educational journey in our district. This change also is a result of increased funding included in House Bill 3, which Governor Greg Abbott signed into law June 11th. In addition, four-year-olds in our Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities or PPCD program may also be eligible for a full time program instead of half a day. The length of the education day for learners enrolled in the PPCD program will be determined by their ARD committee.

As we share this update with you, we also need your help in getting the word out to your friends, neighbors and others who live in our district, but are not yet in school, who may not be aware that our Pre-K program is going full day and may wish to pursue this program.

Upcoming Pre-K testing dates for the 2019-2020 school year are July 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 31st for the fall. Please visit www.coppellisd.com/prek to register for testing, if you haven’t done so already, as well as for more information about our Pre-K program.

For those families who already have been tested and informed that they qualify for the CISD Pre-K program for the 2019-2020 school year, this change means that your child will attend Pre-K full time when school begins on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.  Your child will attend school during the regular elementary school hours from 7:40 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. at their assigned campus.

Bus transportation will be provided to our eligible Pre-K students, should you choose to use it.  Please visit www.coppellisd.com/transportation for details about bus pass registration, which will occur in late July approximately two weeks before school starts.  Lunch also will be provided via our Child Nutrition Services Department for our Pre-K students, either through purchase or via our Free or Reduced Lunch program. Please visit www.coppellisd.com/childnutrition to set up an account or to apply for the Free and Reduced Lunch program.

As a reminder, Coppell ISD offers a Pre-K Program for eligible students who are 4 years of age on or before September 1 for the enrolling school year (Sept. 1, 2019 for 2019-2020 school year), and reside within the boundaries of Coppell ISD.  Eligible students must meet at least ONE of the following criteria:

  • The child qualifies for Free or Reduced Lunch;
  • The child needs English as a second language or Bilingual programming, and must be tested for limited English Proficiency;
  • The child qualifies as homeless as defined by federal law;
  • The child qualifies as a child of an active duty member of the US Armed Forces or the child of a member of the US Armed Forces who was injured or killed while serving on active duty;
  • The child is currently in or has been in foster care; or
  • The child is the son/daughter of a peace officer, firefighter or emergency medical first responder for the Star of Texas Award.

Thank you for your support of our district.

Sincerely,

CISD Administration
