Two CISD Athletes Test Positive for COVID-19
June 28, 2020
Dear Coppell ISD Athletes, Families and Staff,
Coppell ISD was recently notified that two of our student athletes — a female volleyball athlete and a male football athlete — both of whom have participated in Performance Course have tested positive for COVID-19. These two student athletes were exposed to the virus outside of school activities, including Performance Course and skill workouts.
The coaches and student athletes who were in close contact with these two students at CISD workouts have already been notified. They are required to quarantine from Performance Course, skill workouts and from all district facilities for a 14-day period. This quarantine is required by both the University Interscholastic League and the Dallas County Health Department.
In addition, our custodial partner Aramark will conduct deep cleanings of our athletic facilities. Please note, Performance Course will have clinics this week (June 29 to July 2) and is closed the week of July 6. CISD student athletes have the option of skipping these two weeks, if they choose, which allows for the 14-day quarantine period for COVID-19.
CISD officials have been in close contact with county and state health experts, as the number of COVID-19 cases rise in our community. The district is complying with the health and safety guidelines set forth by the University Interscholastic League. We continue to ask our student athletes and families to practice social distancing and do what you can to minimize contact with others. Carpooling and social gatherings on weekends and evenings are strongly discouraged. Student athletes also are encouraged to minimize their interactions with others before and after school workouts. Please note, Dallas County has mandated all people 10 years or older wear masks or a face covering over their nose and mouth when in a public place where it is difficult to keep six feet away from other people.
We remain committed to ongoing communication and transparency with our student athletes. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work together to keep our children and our community safe.
