Coppell Student Media National Recognition

The 2019-2020 CHS Sidekick newspaper staff recently received the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) Silver Crown Award. This marks the program's third Crown Award. Coppell Student Media received a CSPA Online Silver Crown in 2010 and The Sidekick was awarded a CSPA Hybrid News Gold Crown in 2020.

The prestigious Crown Awards are the highest honors given by CSPA for student print or digital mediums. The CSPA has been recognizing excellence in student journalism since 1925. The Sidekick is one of two Hybrid News Crown winners from Dallas-Fort Worth and the only public school (The Hockaday School of Dallas is the other) from the Metroplex to receive a Hybrid News Crown.

The Hybrid News category involves both your print and digital news platforms, as all six issues of The Sidekick and daily content published to were evaluated and judged in this competitive category. Hybrid News is the only Crown category where multiple media platforms are entered for competition.

The National Scholastic Press Association also recently announced Coppell Student Media as one of 43 national finalists for a 2021 Online Pacemaker Award. The Pacemaker is considered the Pulitzer Prize of scholastic journalism. Coppell Student Media has won three Pacemakers (2017, 2018, 2020) and has been a finalist seven times (2021, 2020, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2012) in the site's 12-year history.

Coppell Student Media is one of six finalists from Texas and one of three from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
