DECA International Success
CHS Junior Kavin Sampath believes financial literacy is one of the most important topics necessary for success in the real world. He has taken this cause to heart by founding the Coppell Charitable Investments group. This commitment also has led to him becoming a finalist in Personal Financial Literacy at the DECA International Career and Development Conference. Sampath is among the 15 CHS students who qualified for the competition.
These CHS students competed at the DECA International Career and Development Conference against about 10,000 students representing all 50 states and six countries. Sampath was a finalist in the Personal Financial Literacy event and was listed as a top performer for the presentation portion of the international student business competition.
Being a finalist as a junior is a huge accomplishment says DECA adviser Richard Chamberlain, who teaches Marketing and Business at CHS.
“Kavin winning as a top performer in presentation is amazing, as only 11 of the Personal Finance Literacy competitors receive the finalist distinction,” Chamberlain said. “This bodes well for him next year.”
Sampath is one example of the success of this year’s DECA competition season,
“Our season went well, as we had 103 compete at district and 99 make it to state,” Chamberlain said. “We had 15 advance to international competition, and for the first time, none of them were seniors. This makes the next DECA season very exciting, as all our officers and competitors return for at least one more year.”
