CISD Announces District Teachers of the Year
Pinkerton Elementary Special Education Teacher Natalie Cuccia and New Tech High @ Coppell Math Teacher Anthony Hufford were surprised at their campuses on April 22 with the news they are the 2022 CISD Elementary and Secondary District Teachers of the Year, respectively.
A school bus with CISD Superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt, CISD Trustees, district officials, selection committee members and business partners delivered the District Teacher of the Year news to Cuccia and Hufford during surprise pep rallies at each school. The two teachers were also given items of recognition, including a $100 gift card from Walk Ons in Las Colinas and a Dak Prescott signed football from the restaurant, and other recognition items to commemorate their selection. Other business partners, including Ascension Coffee, C2 Education, Corky's, Define Orthodontics, Flying Fish, Jostens, Landon Winery, Market Street, Rodeo Goat and Tru by Hilton also contributed items for the recognition.
According to Pinkerton Principal Mikkelsen, Cuccia is a dedicated educator who builds strong relationships with her learners.
“She is determined to help them find success and overcome their personal obstacles,” Mikkelsen said. “She has a heart for challenging behaviors and approaches each day as a fresh beginning. She is a true team player.”
Cuccia said, “Everything has purpose. It is through the journey that every child discovers their greatness.”
New Tech High @ Coppell Principal Joseph Smith says Hufford is an exemplar of a phenomenal teacher.
“In addition to being a stellar math teacher, Anthony leads our Learner Leadership Council, serves as our learning management system expert and is a trainer for the New Tech network, meaning he regularly consults for other schools across the United States,” Smith said.
Hufford said, “Empowering learners to change the world around them is what makes me love being a teacher, sponsor and mentor. I love seeing learners discover the patterns and logic of life and build confidence through experiences I help create.”
CISD schools announced Campus Teachers of the Year in November and December 2021. A district selection committee then interviews and observes the teachers in action before selecting the CISD Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year. As the CISD Teachers of the Year, Cuccia and Hufford will move on to the Region 10 Teacher of the Year selection process.
