Dear CISD Community,
I want to share a brief update on the serious incident I wrote to you about on Sunday. I understand the sense of urgency in this situation, which must be balanced with due process and a thorough investigation as required by the district’s policies and procedures. While I cannot share specific student and personnel details due to privacy laws, here is what I can share:
- Corrective action is taking place, which means that the district and CMS North are addressing any identified issues and gaps that occurred in the initial response to this incident.
- This includes a thorough review of our current policies and procedures, especially when physical confrontations are involved, a reassessment of the discipline initially assigned in this case and improved communication with the parties involved.
- To be clear, no student is ever disciplined solely for being the victim of physical violence. Investigations of incidents like these often bring to light other facts that may cause disciplinary action to occur according to the CISD Student Code of Conduct.
- Bullying can be both physical and verbal, and there are consequences for both in the CISD Student Code of Conduct.
CISD will improve our anti-bullying efforts, including prevention, retraining and reporting.
As the investigation continues and if additional corrective actions are taken, we will share these with our parents and community.
Dr. Brad Hunt
